What is timber worth?
worth1Many factors are taken into consideration when evaluating what your timber is worth.
These factors include:

  1. Landowner Objectives
  2. Acreage and Volume
  3. Location of a woodlot in relation to log markets
  4. Wood Quality (hardwood usually has the highest value)
    • Veneer
    • Logs
    • Pulp
    • Biomass
  5. Road/Landing Requirements of a woodlot
  6. Terrain of a woodlot
  7. Harvesting Equipment Systems

If you would like to schedule a date for the SFPNA Sustainable Forestry Program to walk through your woodlot with you and discuss your objectives, as well as provide you with an estimate of what your timber is worth, please contact us at 207-858-4201.

The Western Region of the Bureau of Parks and Lands has worked with the Sappi stumpage program on a variety of timber sales over the years. Most recently, they've worked on timber sales on the Little Moose Unit, Days Academy and Lily Bay State Park.  Sappi has done a great job ensuring the Bureau's wood has moved to the best markets in a timely fashion. Customer service has been outstanding! I highly recommend Sappi's stumpage program to any landowner, large or small. They have the professional staff to meet your silvicultural goals and the ability to market products that others cannot.
